What Does Going Viral on YouTube Actually Mean?

Most people define viral wrong. They think it means "a million views." But that's not useful because it misses the only question that matters:

Compared to what?

If you want to level up, you need to think in better terms. Instead of "Viral", think about "Outliers".

A outlier is a video that massively outperforms the channel's normal performance. An outlier is "the 1 of 10" video that breaks through. A 100,000-view video can be viral for a small channel. On the other hand, a 5-million-view video can be normal for a huge channel. This changes everything.

At Vernigo, the outlier score is calculated by dividing a video's view count by the average views of the previous 5 videos. For example, if a channel averages 20k views per video but the next video gets 100k views, that's a 5x outlier because it got 5 times more views!
